ATHLETICS VICTORIA
COMPETITIONS

The summer season typically takes place most weeks from October – March, usually Saturday afternoon. Programs vary over a 2 week period to ensure that the full range of events are covered. Teams from each club compete in graded senior divisions, junior grades from under 14 to under 18, in both females and males. Our club has a number of teams covering several grades.

There are club team managers who coordinate the competitors to try to ensure that each athlete competes in preferred events and that each team is represented. The top 4 in each grade qualify for finals. The atmosphere at Interclub is usually casual and very friendly, both within our club and between other clubs.

State Championships
Athletics Victoria’s championship events provide the platform to compete against Victoria’s best athletes. With competition for junior, open and masters athletes covering track, field, relay and multi events.

AV championships are a stepping stone towards national-level competition, giving you the chance to earn Victorian team selection and represent your state against Australia’s best.

All athletes are able to enter Victorian Championships in open or underage events if eligible.

For further information on the weekly competition, please visit Athletics Victoria.

VICTORIAN ATHLETICS LEAGUE (VAL)

Like many amateur athletics clubs, Brunswick Athletics Club has athletes who also compete amongst the ‘pro’ ranks. They call it the ‘professional running circuit’ because if you win or progress from the heats of an event, you typically get a financial reward. This is run on the handicap system. The most prestigious of these pro races are the Ballarat Gift as well as the coveted Stawell Gift.

There are also races for athletes who have never won a title before, called ‘Novice’ races. For more information on this type of running, please visit the Victorian Athletics League.
